Preparation for Sailboat Charters

It’s an exciting and busy time getting ready and packing for a vacation.  Below is a list of suggested things to pack and things to do before you leave home for your sailboat charter adventure.

THINGS TO TAKE AND DO

  • Your passport and visas required.
  • Cash and Travelers checks, credit card
  • Papers for the sailboat charter company
  • Any sailing school certificates or documents showing any boat training you have taken and documents of boats you have previously chartered.
  • Medications
  • Reading glasses
  • Sunglasses, you may want to take an extra pair.
  • Hats
  • Umbrella, small folding
  • Sunscreen
  • Lip sunscreen
  • After sun lotion, aloe lotion
  • Insect spray
  • Tissues
  • Talcum powder -  gets rid of sandy feet before bedtime.
  • Binoculars
  • Books or magazines
  • Book light
  • Matches or lighter
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Cards or games
  • Equipment such as GPS, Computer, Ipods, small radio/cassette player. Do check to see if your cell phone will work where you are chartering.

Most boats have very limited storage space so be sure to pack lightly

Pack casual clothes, dresses for when you go ashore in the evening, a must is Topsider shoes or  good boating shoes with light colored rubber soles,  sun hats or caps, cotton cover-ups or shirts, windbreaker. Don’t forget your swimsuit.

Don’t forget to have a friend or neighbor pick up your mail and newspaper. Do not inform the Post Office or Newspaper office that you will gone.

Give your itinerary and how you can be contacted to a relative or friend.

Let a  neighbor that you trust know you will be gone.
